Zach; your blog is really valuable; I've added it to my bookmarks :)

Two things are interesting about this article; 1st it was written on my birthday; for 2nd I still love Apple products, especially the mighty iTunes coupled with Nano iPod.

Nobody with half a brain pays $99 a year. On eBay the price is more like $60. I paid $55 a month ago and that included shipping.

MobileMe now works pretty well, I think many of the problems were related to some people were still trying to use Windows, which is mainly their fault not Apple's.

A nice feature breakdown of MobileMe compared to other services can be found here:

(scroll far down for the well crafted chart)

I'd agree with you that web storage is one of the most valuable pieces of mobileMe but right up there (and on top for many people) is the sync/push services that apple appears to be ahead of the pack with. Regardless of the issues with MobileMe at launch, they are behind Apple now and the service is an amazing 1.0 release.

Just a quick example:

I finally purchased my 3G iphone (I was waiting for the lines to die down). The apple employee activated it and told me to just sync with iTunes when I get home.....to which I said, won't it just sync with MobileMe? He said sure and I checked....Every address, and calendar were there waiting for me already.

A $99/year list price with a street price of around $70/year, is no problem to justify. (actually I spend more like $107 for the family account).

Here is all I want... Drop the automatic renewal price to $60-$70 + $10/family member account. They would get more of the money and I could setup more of my extended family on the system. As it stands now I will probably be purchasing 2 family packs each year soon.
