My 10+ year old classic iPass that I bought from a gas station just on the other side of the Illinois border, has finally been retired. The nice thing is that the new, sticker-based iPass systems that they’ve started deploying, come with a “free” $10 refund that gets credited to my iPass account; that was the original $10 “rental” fee that I recall paying back in 2012 when I bought the box-shaped iPass; they would have refunded that to me if I had chosen to return the iPass for any reason, but since I never did and now they don’t use these anymore, it was returned as a credit.
I was curious what is actually inside these things, and I couldn’t find many pictures online. So as I always think to myself – if I can’t find what I want online and I have the ability to contribute something to the web, why not do it?
The box was kind of challenging to get apart. It strongly resisted even my largest flathead screwdrivers to pry it apart. So I took it down to the Linden workshop, found a half-size sledgehammer, and gave it a single whack, and a quarter of the back plastic chipped off. Then I was able to pry it apart fully with screwdrivers now that I had leverage. They definitely don’t want the average person getting in here!

Oh, also Christine is 8.5 months pregnant and I’m going to be a dad in a week or two. Exciting!
